My current research project is a "visual sociology" essay on illegal dumping on public lands - you know, those annoying piles of junk, furniture, construction debris, old cars and such, that you see while hiking or biking along remote dirt roads or open spaces in public wilderness areas.

I have always believed that the spiritual nature of our relationship with the planet and her inhabitants cannot be ignored. One need not be "religious" or even spiritual to be completely awed by a sunset or the night sky...it is only our arrogance in believing that nature "belongs" to us that allows so many of us to dump our detritus about freely.
